Mowgli, Honest, Pho, Rosa’s: Church St has become a hub of the better chains. And now here come Fat Hippo. Starting in Newcastle in 2010, this is not an overnight success story but a steady expansion across the North before the moves to Wales, Birmingham and London. News of their Cardiff arrival was greeted with Read More
With a recently awarded third AA Rosette, it’s obvious twins Pasquale and Sergio Cinotti are doing something at Gem 42 in Newport which deserves attention. It’s not an award any Cardiff restaurant holds. It’s not unusual for it to go hand in hand with a Michelin star: The Beach House and The Walnut Tree have Read More
So here on the Canton Food Mile is Fizz’n’Flour, Cardiff’s latest pizza place. It’s another example of the locally dominant style, but there’s a lot to like: besides, this end of Canton was an absolute priority for good Neapolitan pizza. By which I mean, it’s near the school run. Fizz’n’Flour started as a lockdown project Read More
Have you been to The Humble Onion recently? You should. Two visits in the last fortnight have confirmed what has been obvious for a few years now. This blog is a very simple thing.
I won’t try to sell you any hand lotion, exercise programmes, coffee syrups or Patagonian nose flutes. You won’t find tips on dating, ‘wellness’ or yoga mats.

A simple thing, then: all you get is me wittering on semi-coherently about places I’ve eaten at; hence a ‘restaurant blog’ rather than a ‘food blog’, although there are a few recipes scattered throughout.Â
From mezze to Michelin ‘fine dining’ and all points in between.Â
